Lenbi

Lead Mobile Engineer · Remote, CA

· Completed

Four Lenbi screens: a home feed toggling between borrowing and lending with featured items priced per day; a listings view where an owner approves or declines booking requests; an item detail with rental fees, rating and rental period; and a profile showing rental and listing earnings beside a points and rewards tier.

A rental marketplace for Canada

Lenbi is a peer-to-peer equipment rental marketplace for the Canadian market: users both rent out and borrow, on phone and tablet. I led the mobile build in React Native and Expo.

Payments, listings and chat

Real-time chat over WebSockets with message history, Firebase Storage attachments and automatic blocking of personal contact details inside conversations. Payments run on Stripe: Apple Pay, Google Pay, voucher checkout, and Stripe Connect for lender payouts with earnings tracking and bank withdrawal.

Listings sit behind Stripe Identity ID verification, alongside full Google and Apple sign-in with loading and cancellation states handled. The multi-step listing flow (photos, pricing, availability, location) is validated step by step with Formik and Yup. Location search uses expo-location and Google Places Autocomplete, sorted by distance, filtered by category, with a date-range availability calendar. OneSignal handles push, and a rewards-points system covers bookings and referrals.

Long lists and the iOS build

Performance on long lists: FlashList and React Query caching. And the iOS build itself: resolving native conflicts between the Stripe SDK and other native packages.

What shipped

The marketplace shipped end to end: chat, payments and payouts, identity verification, listings, search and rewards. The engagement ran ten months, concurrently with four other contracts.
